The Adam Project Review

The Adam Project is a Netflix film starring Ryan Reynolds, Zoe Saldana, Jennifer Garner and Mark Ruffalo. This film is about Adam Reed who is played by Ryan Reynolds who travels back from 2050 to 2022 by accident, when he was suppose to travel back to 2018 to stop certain events that will happen to protect the future from chaos. Adam Reed meets his 12 year old self, and they try to save the future together.

This film is not unique in any way, but the actors and the story really make this film a brilliant watch. We have Ryan Reynolds who is his usual self, like we see him in Deadpool and Free Guy. The younger Adam Reeds played by Walker Scobell really hits the ball out of the park with his acting skills. He is really good at imitating Ryan Reynolds and the chemistry the two actors have throughout really makes certain scenes in this film funny, but they also have emotional scenes that really pull at the heartstrings. Walker is really like a younger version of Ryan, which is great to see in this film. Mark Ruffalo who plays Adam's dad does a really good job as well. He is funny throughout and it makes we want to have a scene with the Hulk and Deadpool in the MCU. We don't see much of Adam's wife who is played by Zoe Saldana, but the scenes we get with her are good as well.

The few action scenes we get in this movie look the part, and you can tell they spent a decent amount of money on the CGI on the film. The concept of time travel they have works perfectly for where the film wanted to go at the end. Even though they broke the rules a bit for the ending, I did not really care because it was very emotional.

Overall the film was very funny, as you would expect with one starring Ryan Reynolds. But it also had parts that made you tear up a bit as well, especially at the end. I never thought a game of catch would make me cry. Usually Ryan Reynolds has to carry a film because the story usually lacks substance, but the acting from all of the cast was very good and the story was really engaging throughout.

Verdict - 8/10

Even though time travel films are not unique, very few pull them off as well as The Adam Project did. It is funny, emotional and crazy throughout. If you are looking for a film to watch on Netflix, then I would definitely recommend this one if you love time travel, Ryan Reynolds or both.
