Captain Nova is a fantasy adventure/sci-fi film. It is about a fighter pilot who travels back in time and transforms into her younger self to try to stop a global disaster from happening. But she is not taken seriously because of how young she looks. This is a Dutch film, and it was originally released in 2021. But it has recently been put on Netflix to bring it to a wider audience.
What I liked about this film was the message it carried, which is about looking after our planet better for future generations. The concept of the film was interesting, but it misses the mark badly. The first half of the film is a snooze fest, and the characters feel bland. I could not connect with the characters because of this, and the plot did not help either.
The second half of the film is when things start get a bit more interesting, but not much. The new characters we get introduced to are still just as bland as the rest of them. I'm not blaming the actors for the film being so boring, they did an excellent job with what the plot allowed them to do. I feel that if there was more fantasy elements to it, and we got to know the main characters more, it would have made the film a bit more engaging. I think the film was a bit too short, and it could not convey the message in a entertaining manner.
Verdict - 4/10
Captain Nova has a important message, but how it does this is not very well done. The characters are bland, and the story is not engaging at all. I would not recommend this film if you value your time.
