Texas Chainsaw Massacre is the sequel to the original one, which was released in 1974. Even though this new edition to the series is my least favorite, it still lives up to the horror/thriller genre. Texas Chainsaw Massacre is Gory, action packed and absolutely brutal.

We follow a group of young people who buy a town in Texas and want to revitalize the area. The characters we follow through out the film are Lila, Ruth briefly, Dante and Melody. We start out with the group at a gas station where they are selling Leatherface merchandise. This is where we meet Richter who seems like a idiot first, but we warm up to him as the film progresses. Richter carries a gun with him, and this makes Melody defensive because Lila experienced a school shooting whilst she was studying at school and got shot. As they are driving to the town they brought they get stopped by the Sheriff. This exchange doesn't really amount to much except the Sheriff giving them his card. When we get to the town they have brought, we meet Virginia, who is supposedly Leatherface's mother. But this isn't confirmed because all we know about there relationship is that the building they live in used to be an orphanage, so maybe Leatherface never got adopted so she kept him. Dante thinks that the house is his and asks Virginia to show him the deeds, and she refuses. Later on we find out that she does have the deeds to the house. Dante calls the Sheriff and Virginia has a heart attack, so the Sheriff takes her to the hospital. This is where we get out first look at Leatherface because he goes with her in the car and Ruth goes as well. Virginia dies in the car and it flips a switch in Leatherface and thus the killing spree begins. He cuts the face off Virginia and wears it, and this is where we see his iconic look. We get a character called Sally Hardesty from the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre, but she gets killed pretty easily after the film was building her up to have a epic showdown with Leatherface, which turns out to be a disappointing action scene. We get investors that come to look at the town in which Dante and Melody are hosting. As you can probably guess the rest of the movie is the group getting picked off one by one till there is only one survivor, which was Lila.

The best scene in this film is when all of the investors are stuck in the bus with Leatherface and he just slaughters them all with his chainsaw. It was Gory and brutal, just what you want from a thriller. There was no real character development, and we could have done without Ruth. She brought absolutely nothing to the film except be killed in the first 20 minutes. As I mentioned earlier about Lila being in a school shooting, we get flashbacks to this throughout. But we don't get enough information about the shooting, thus I could not get invested in her character development. At the end when we think Lila kills Leatherface, and it is just her and Melody. He comes back and drags Melody out of the car and Severs her head with his chainsaw.

Overall Texas Chainsaw Massacre was a good watch, but I wouldn't watch it again. The story wasn't appealing to me, and the characters seemed too bland to me. But I did like the action scenes and the brutal killing scenes.

Verdict - 6/10

Texas Chainsaw Massacre has some brutal killing scenes, which make up for the poor story line overall. If you like thrillers, then this film is definitely worth checking out at least once.
