Hotel Transylvania: Transformania Review (Spoilers)

ree

Hotel Transylvania 4 is disappointing and adds nothing to the series. This movie is the final one in the series and it released exclusively on Amazon Prime, after getting delayed multiple times. The reason why I am being so harsh on this movie is because I feel like we are going through the same motions as the other three movies.

The movie starts with a party celebrating the 125th anniversary of the hotel. We find out that Dracula is planning on retiring and handing the hotel to Mavis and Jonathon. Because Mavis has super hearing, she over hears Dracula speaking to Erika about this. Mavis tells Jonny what she overheard her dad talking about and Jonny gets very excited. Jonny tells Dracula that he knows that he is retiring and is giving the hotel to Mavis and him. And in Jonny's excitement he starts to tell Dracula what he is going to change at the hotel, and Dracula realizes that he doesn't want Jonny to have the hotel. So Dracula makes up that there is a monster real estate law. Which means only monsters can own the hotel. Jonny gets really sad about this and talks to Van Helsing. Van Helsing tells Jonny he has got a ray gun called the monsterfication ray, which in short is called a monster ray. This monster ray can turn humans into monsters and vice versa. Jonny gets really excited and tells Van Helsing to use it on him. Jonny transforms into a dragon and wants to tell Mavis that they can still have the hotel because he is a monster now. Dracula finds him and tries to use the monster gun to transform Jonny back into a human. Dracula misses a bunch of times and accidently shoots himself and thus he becomes human. This is when things finally turn a bit more interesting after spending a good part of the movie at the party. The crystal breaks in the gun and they have to locate a new one to turn themselves back, and in the end they do. Dracula finally accepting Jonny as part of the family again.

The movie is basically an adventure road trip which turns out to be very underwhelming. The characters are bland, and the movie overall feels dragged out. We do get to see Dracula's friend's turn into humans, but nothing interesting really happens with them. Some of the animations in the movie were wonky and the film feels like it got rushed out. After all of the delays Sony made and not getting released in cinema's, you can understand why they just wanted to get it out. Don't get me wrong I love the Hotel Transylvania series, but I would have been happy with just the first three movies because the third ended perfectly to finish the series that so many loves. The ending was the most disappointing part of the movie because we waited the whole film to see the transformation of the hotel and we only get awful animations in the credits at the end.

Verdict - 3/10

Overall the movie was a big disappointment after waiting so long for it to be released. If you love hotel Transylvania, you will feel cheated by this fourth and final installment of the series. I wish it was better for the sake of this otherwise fun and beautiful series.
