Rooney on Amazon Prime is a interesting insight into the character and person Rooney is behind closed doors. It shows the pressures he's faced throughout his career and the onslaught of abuse he got from the media.

The documentary follows the career of Wayne Rooney. We get some insight to how his upbringing was and what sort of character he was when he was younger. As we see in the documentary, he was brought up in the streets of Liverpool in a very rough area. It helps the audience understand Rooney better as a person and not just the footballer. When he left Everton to go to Manchester United we see how much pressure the media puts on him instantly. This raises expectations and puts pressure on him to be one of the best young talents in world football, especially playing for the national team. But as he gets more confident in front of the media his ego grows, which helps him grow a thicker skin.

We also see the strain the media puts on his relationship with is Wife Coleen. We do dive a bit into Rooney's darker past, but not very much. We get mentions of his drinking problems and his wild nights out, We also hear him talk about when he was wanting to leave United towards the end of his career to go to Manchester city. He says that he felt like the team was declining in quality and predicted where United are today. Rooney also takes a pop at Sir Alex Ferguson by saying that Ferguson could see the decline and he got out as soon as he could. I could sense when I heard him saying that, that there was a tension between Rooney and Sir Alex.

Overall the documentary was a good watch if you like football and especially a fan of Manchester United. I would of liked him to elaborate more on some of the darker parts that were mentioned, but overall it was a good watch. Amazon are doing a great job of doing documentaries on football. So far we've gotten a behind the scenes look for a season at Spurs, and Amazon are currently shooting a behind the scenes look at Arsenals season which should be interesting.

Verdict - 6/10

It's a interesting insight not only to a top professional footballers life but it's especially interesting to follow one of England's best players of all time. And also follow the trials and tribulations he went through personal. If you love Football then this is Definitely worth a watch, it's insightful and inspiring.
