Russian Doll Season 2 Review

Russian Doll

Russian Doll season 2 follows Nadia and Alan again. The pair of them seem like they have it all together, but Nadia goes on a train and it takes her back in time. She becomes her mother and Nadia tries to right the wrongs of her mother's past, but things do not go according to plan for her. Alan does pretty much the same, by trying to change the past of his family as well.

Even though I really enjoyed this season, it was not as good as the first one. Season 2 was not as funny as season 1, but it was pretty emotional at times. I liked that we got to see more of Nadia's moms past, and how much she struggled with hersef. Even though Nadia does not like the way her mom treated her when she was little, she started to understand why she was like that. Nadia grew up a lot emotionally in this season, and she started to not judge people without knowing what they have been through. We see this by how she is with Ruth throughout season 2. At first she is selfish, but towards the end she realizes how she has been with her and becomes aware of how her actions affect other people. The performance from Natasha Lyonne who plays Nadia was brilliant as always, and brought this season to life.

There were a few things I did not like about this season, and that was Alan's story line. I thought the character seemed too bland, and the story line for him was not interesting compared to Nadia's. The humor this season did not hit the mark for me. I think this is because the first season was not as serious, and it was lighthearted compared to the new season. I would of liked to see more of Nadia's friends as well. We hardly got to see Maxine and Lizzy which was a shame.

Verdict - 8/10

Russian Doll Season 2 is quite serious compared to the last one, but it still is one of Netflix's best Series they have on the platform. Even though it is not as funny, it still is worth watching. I would definitely recommend this if you enjoyed the first season, which I think most people who watched the show did.
