We start off with Ruby's funeral. This scene shows the impact this will have on Thomas and Lizzie for the remainder of the season, and it also shows that their relationship is more divided than ever. After the funeral we get to see Thomas Shelby kill Madame Barwell who put the curse on his daughter. But this still does not satisfy his hunger for revenge, because he is still battling demons in his head, and I think he still blames himself for his daughters death. We also see Esme again in this episode and she tells Thomas that he has a son that he does not know about. She also tells him that if he gives her more gold she will introduce him to Thomas and convince him to go with him. I'm not quite sure where this is going to lead being over halfway through the season already, but it will be interesting to see.
We start to see how big and wide spread the Nazis are spreading in England. We see a group of them throw a brick through Ada's window, because her child is mixed race. She then scares the group of people off with her gun. We also see her older son getting these ideas of a superior race and blaming his younger brother for it. This is when Ada reminds him that he is half gypsy, and she also tells him that he is also half Jewish which shocks him because he never knew his dad.
We see Thomas struggle with the death of his daughter all the way through the episode, which starts to effect the decisions he is making business wise. Thomas has a meeting with Mosley, Diana, Nelson and Laura McKee, which is about spreading fascism in England, and what they can provide to help the cause. We see that Gina and Mosley are sleeping together, and Thomas finds out. He blackmails Gina and tells her to spy on Mosley in the meeting he has coming up in Germany. I believe this will have big implications on the relationship between the Americans and the British.
The end of the episode we see Thomas finding out he has tuberculoma. Tuberculoma mimics cancer tumors in the brain, and it grows making the person incapable of looking after themselves once it spreads enough. So Thomas does not have long left to finish what business he has left, which is about 1 year to 18 months until it starts to effect him fully.
The majority of this episode focused on Thomas and Lizzie and how they are dealing with Ruby's death differently. This is one of the most depressing episodes of Peaky Blinders and we really get to see how human Thomas is, and his battle to get everything done as quick as possible. But the ending of this episode changes these plans and he has to think about finding a way out and making sure his family are looked after.
Verdict - 7/10
Even though this episode was depressing, I liked the way we got to see the more human side of Thomas Shelby. I also liked the tone this episode set for the rest of the series, and how almost everything is going against Thomas. I can't wait for the next episode, and I am expecting some big moments to happen to set up the finale.
