All of Us Are Dead Review

ree

All of Us Are Dead is an epic zombie series that all lovers of the genre will enjoy. It is action packed with lots of gore and lots of zombie action. It is one of the better Korean shows on Netflix and I highly recommend to watch it if you have not.

We follow a zombie plaque that hits a small town in Korea. The plaque is started by a science teacher who is trying to help his son stop getting bullied. He tries to develop something that will make his son stronger and even the odds with the bullies. As we find out it turns into a complete disaster, and has grave consequences. The plaque starts when a rat bites a student and turns her into a zombie. The rat that bit her was used to experiment on by the science teacher. It turns into a domino effect from here and the whole school becomes infected and most of the students become zombies. We follow a group of students throughout the series. Towards the start the students get picked off but eventually we follow the main characters of the series. As we get further on in, the military get involved. This is the most interesting scenes in the series with the military because it shows how tough the decisions they have to make to save the most people. Also the moral dilemmas they have like saving the children who could be potentially infected or leaving them behind because the risk is too high. The virus evolves which essentially turns some students in human zombie hybrids, and they are basically superhuman. We get a main villain who never seems to die because he is a hybrid. Towards the start the villain of the story is interesting, but then it gets stale because he keeps coming back to life. In the end he finally dies and the children that are left get rescued by a father of one of the students.

Character development is essential for a long series like this. With it being 12 episodes and being one of the longer Netflix series, it is worth the slog to experience this awesome journey. The characters seem like basic students at first, but as we progress throughout the season they mature because of the horrors and trauma they all go through. It feels like a coming of age story and they realize that they can't rely on anyone to save them except themselves.

All of Us Are Dead does drag on, and I think it could of done with less episodes. But it is worth the slog because every episode keeps you wanting more. The end scene does hint that there could be a potential second season and I hope there is. With it being such a hit on Netflix there most likely will be a second season. Netflix is doing a good job with there Korean films and hopefully they keep on hitting the sweet spot with there shows.

Verdict - 8/10

Like I said it is a slog to get through and it could have been shorter, but it is worth keeping with it. If you love zombies and action then this is the series for you. With lots of twists and turns, and great character development throughout. I highly recommend watching this just for the masterpiece it is.
